Day 12 - Something you never get compliments on.
This one is an easy one........my COOKING.
I am 100% Italian. My father's mother was the most amazing cook I had ever known.
Growing up with my mother I was never taught how to cook. That is one thing my husband could not understand. He was taught by his mother and his grandmother to cook. I was at my grandmother's house when she did baking and make pasta from scratch and various pastries and cakes. What I wouldn't give to have some of her recipes!!! They got passed down to others in the family. BOO!!!!!
So...I get married at 19 and have to learn how to cook very quickly!!! My Betty Crocker cook book that was a wedding gift was a godsend!!! It helped me through tough times, I'll tell ya.
19 1/2 years later and I rarely get compliments on my cooking.
I will share a funny story from when I was first married. I made pork chops for dinner. I put them in the oven. I made the sides and was all proud of myself. Our son was down for a nap. Hubby came home from work and said everything smelled and looked great. He puts his knife and fork to the pork chops and he can't cut into them. I overcooked them in the oven. They were HOCKEY PUCKS!!! You could have killed someone by winging a pork chop at them!!! I was mortified at the time. But it's a pretty funny story now.
I've come a long way since those days.....

I think you have to develop a love for cooking, my grandfather was a Greek Chef and owned a restraunt with his brother John...I learned at an early age how to cook...but papoo was a very gentle, kind man and took the time to teach me well. Also his cooking was to die for..I made sure that I taught all my kids boys and girls how to cook...all of them are excellent chefs. Now my sister not so much, she burns water..lol. Although she can bake cakes/brownies very well.
Alot in common here! Both Italian (75%)both never taught to cook, both started out early as homemakers, and seems no one likes our cooking! So ya know what we do? Boycott!! Nah actually - mine are all grown with their own kids, I'm off the hook finally lol.
